If you are one of those students that viewed the blog during ekoko day, congratulations! You are one of the luckiest students out there that managed to view the video all the way to the 26th one, and we committee members congratulate you for your endurance.
As you have successfully reached this page, it shows that you have some sort of interest in Philately. We normally don't have a lot of new members so it is very encouraging if you participated in our club. We normally have about 20 members a year and that's it.
Hence, if you are interested in the hobby of collecting stamps, it is definitely a good choice to join our club! It is not a common club out there and you will be learning about a hobby that has lesser and lesser enthusiasts every year. If you join us, you actually can get to continue to enjoy this hobby, now with extra knowledge that we will teach you this year!
Remember the starter packs that we mentioned elsewhere? Well, it is definitely value for money as we actually spent nearly as much as the club fee to craft that starter pack! I am not kidding here! It is really expensive to create but thanks to the budget surplus from previous years, we managed to achieve a starter pack beginning from 2021. This means that if you joined in 2021, it is very likely that you will get to receive starter packs for the next few years!!
On top of that, our teacher advisors are very, very supportive of our plans, so if you are planning to have any Philately-related endeavours, they will definitely support you to the very end! For example, the head teacher advisor of our club for the past 6 years, Cik Farhana, helped the current committee to her very best for us to host a National Philately Quiz (NPQ) that is currently at approval stage. She helped us to achieve everything to our best interests instead of following the instructions from the school 100% and not ask further about the system. This is very encouraging for Junior Philatelists like us.
And then remember the part where i once mentioned that we have 12 meetings a year? Well it is more about the discovery path, where you get to learn a lot of information about Philately, organized neatly into 8 meetings with different topics. Unlike the ekoko video which is not our expertise, we can reassure you that the materials that we prepare are very detailed and it is also very suitable for non-philatelists that are very interested to learn more about this hobby.
And here is a very realistic question- how much extracurricular marks can I get? Well, fear not because as long as you participated in all meetings and engaged in all competitions, it is very easy to get an A (80 or above) for extracurricular marks. Our school's recent improvements also allow you to transfer the merits from other non-philatelic competition to our club, so if you participated in any national-level competition, it is very easy to gain 90 marks or above :)
And you may be asking yourself, what about the committee member part? How should I join them? Well, if you are interested in joining the committee and you want to try it out, do not be scared to apply for it. Our main objective is to allow you to gain more extracurricular marks too. If you don't know what to do for your position, we will guide you, don't worry. You won't be requested to teach or anything like that, this job will be handled by us, the experienced seniors. However, we definitely need your cooperation to voice out whenever there is a problem/ question so we can fix it ASAP. There are two committee member applications for this year, one in February and one in May. If you are a committee member for the Feburary application, you are more likely to receive higher positions in the May application, so don't worry. If you are a Form 5 student, the february application is actually inclined to help students that don't have any positions currently, so please apply if you want. For Form 2,3,4 students, please apply as long as you want them! We will definitely try our best to fulfill your request so don't worry. For Form 1 students, maybe some of you are enthusiastic about aiming for positions for the February slot, but unfortunately due to school regulations we can't allow that. However, the May application is all yours! As long as we see that you are eligible, you will definitely be given the job.
Some may be asking, then what is the Standing Order Account (RM 10) for? Well this is a very good initiative by Pos Malaysia. This account is literally your ticket to participations in National Level competitions. If you like to design postcards, create stamp folios etc, this is the perfect chance for you to participate. You will also receive First Day Covers (FDCs) worth RM 10. Everyone have to pay this fee so you will be reminded when it is time to pay for this.
Then here is a final conclusion, should I join Philately Club or not? Well, given that you are interested in one of the choices above, why not give it a try? Participating in our club doesn't mean that you have to register under our club's name in the e-koko Google Form given by the school*, you just have to register with Louis (plrease refer to our e-brochure) and we will consider you as a member.
*The action of not registering using our club's name is allowed by our school, you just need to attend whatever club you like and pick the highest marks club at the end. This statement is given by Puan Lok Fang Yee.
